Last 45 minutes were devoted to the Genetics Power Point presentation

Thursday 26 October 2017

Biology 12

Today we finished our Transcription/ Translation Cuttin' and Pastin' activity
and turned in the Mutations Worksheet

From Gene to Protein transcription and translation worksheet is due tomorrow

Next we started a Genetics Project.  The Power Point presentations will begin on Wednesday, November 9th.

Wednesday 25 October 2017

Biology 11

Today we marked pg. 223 #8-13

Next we completed the lab:  Representative Monerans.  All you needed to turn in was a drawing of two different bacteria samples.

We went through a handout on viruses and looked at the lytic and lysogenic cyles

Then we went to the IT lab and started our project on viruses

Remember that on Friday we have a quiz on bacteria and the Diversity and Biology of Monerans questions are due.

Tuesday 24 October 2017

Biology 12

Today we finished off the DNA unit by looking at mutations.  We took notes from the power point and then did a short worksheet on mutations.

Next we finished the cuttin' and pastin' DNA replication and protein synthesis.

For homework:  Finish the From Gene to Protein- Transcription and Translation

and Module questions on mutations.

Biology 11

I collected by. 223 #8-13.   We marked the prokaryotes-bacteria sheet together.

Today we finished off bacteria by taking notes on germicides, antiseptics and antibiotics.

We also took brief notes on viruses

Homework:  Due on Friday -- The Diversity and Biology of Monerans

Monday 23 October 2017

Biology 11

I collected the Prokaryotes Colouring and Questions sheet.

Today we looked at our Distribution of Bacteria Lab and described the colonies we saw.

Homework:  Read pg. 221-223 and Do Questions #8-13 on pg. 223

Biology 12

Today we reviewed DNA transcription and translation.

This animation shows both:  https://learn.concord.org/resources/764/dna-to-protein

This animation shows how your transcription and translation cutting and pasting:

Biology 11

Today we went over the taxonomy worksheet and had a quick Taxonomy quiz

Next we did a colouring sheet identifying parts of prokaryotic cells and types of Monerans

We started a lab on representative Monerans......not quite enough time to do this in our shortened blocks!

Tuesday 17 October 2017

Biology 11

Today we gathered some bacteria for the distribution of bacteria lab.  Yummy!

Next we took some notes on Monerans (Kingdom Monera)

Homework:  Complete the entire taxonomy worksheet (use the book to answer questions).

Short quiz tomorrow on Taxonomy

Biology 12

First we had a weeeeee homework quiz on DNA replication

Next we looked at the steps in translation--------sequencing amino acids to make proteins

Potato lab was due today

Homework:  Module Questions:  All of Protein Synthesis
A) Protein Synthesis        B) Features of RNA         C) Process of Protein Synthesis

Monday 16 October 2017

Biology 12

Today we continued with the DNA unit by looking at DNA transcription----DNA being used as a template to make mRNA.

We completed the cutin' and pastin' activity by doing the transcription section.

Homework:  DNA module questions A) structure of DNA and B) DNA replication

Homework quiz tomorrow!

Biology 11

Today we started (and finished!) Taxonomy

In class we did a Dicotomous Key on shark identification and looked at a Cladogram

Homework:  Taxonomy Handout questions (#1-5)   You need your textbook for this

Thursday 12 October 2017

Biology 11

Today we wrote the Evolution Test and then went and saw some presentations by the Vancouver Aquarium.  Next we came back to class to continue watching the video "What Darwin Never Knew"

For Homework:  Read pg. 197-199.  Answers to skill testing questions will be your ticket into tomorrow's volleyball game.

Wednesday 11 October 2017

Biology 12

Today we wrote the Unit test on Cell Organelles, Cell Membranes and Transport across the membrane.

Next block we reviewed the structure of DNA and did some cuttin' and pastin' to help us learn about DNA replication.  We left this in class so NO homework!

Biology 11

Today we started class with a Power Point on agents of change.   How does evolution actually happen?

Next we looked at some Mendelian traits in humans with a lab on Human Variations.  Make sure this got turned in with the 6 questions at the end.

We did a somewhat CRAZY lab outside to see which adaptation would help you survive over 4 generations.  Looks like we don't need an opposable thumb after all:).  Make sure you bring the adaptation lab back tomorrow.

FOR HOMEWORK:   first 6 questions on the Evolutions Review Handout.

Wednesday 4 October 2017
